At Gifford Fence, we’ve honed our techniques to ensure the utmost strength and stability in our vinyl privacy fence installations. While the modular nature of professional-grade tongue & groove vinyl privacy fencing offers advantages like hurricane resistance, it also presents a security vulnerability. This modularity allows for the relatively easy removal of components, such as pulling the top rail out of the post and dislodging pickets.
To mitigate this risk and enhance overall fence integrity, we employ several key strategies:
- Secure Foundations:
- Deep and Stable Post Setting: We prioritize a robust foundation by setting each post in at least 3 feet of concrete, using a minimum of 60 pounds of concrete per post. This substantial base provides unwavering support, effectively anchoring the fence against external forces.
- Post Stability: Once the concrete is poured, it’s crucial to avoid any disturbance of the post. Shaking the post can create a gap between the post and the setting concrete, compromising its stability and potentially leaving it loose in the ground even after the concrete has fully cured. We advise customers to refrain from using gates for at least 48 hours after installation to prevent any inadvertent shaking of the gate hinge or latch posts.
- Enhanced Rail Security:
- Reinforced Rail Connections: Vinyl fence rails typically feature tabs that lock into the post. However, these tabs can be relatively small, made of plastic, and susceptible to breakage. To address this, we install a screw within the top rail, securing it to the inside of the post wall. This internal screw reinforces the rail connection, preventing it from being easily pulled out and significantly enhancing the fence’s overall security. Moreover, this technique helps to pull the fence posts and panels together, contributing to a more robust and cohesive structure.
- Sturdy Gate Construction:
- Essential Cross Member Support: A critical element for any vinyl gate is a strong cross member support. The absence of this support can lead to significant gate sag over time. We recommend installing the cross member from the top of the hinge-side upright to the bottom of the latch-side upright. Utilize matching vinyl V braces or readily available black metal supports, ensuring the cross member is at least 8 feet long for 6-foot tall fences.
By implementing these three key strategies, we ensure that your Gifford Fence vinyl privacy fence is not only exceptionally strong and secure but also built to last. These measures contribute to a more robust and dependable fence that will provide years of reliable service, while also maximizing the value of your investment in high-quality vinyl fencing.
